The Project

Shriners Hospitals for Children® – Canada has embarked on its first-ever major fundraising campaign, the Exceptional Care for Exceptional Kids Campaign, with an objective of raising $130 million to help build the new Shriners Hospitals for Children in Montreal

A New Hospital

Building a hospital – and shaping the future of children’s orthodepic care

When you donate to the new Shriners Hospitals for Children project, you will be ensuring that every child will benefit from the latest medical practices, in friendly and comfortable surroundings.

Located on the west end of the McGill University Health Center (MUHC) Campus, the building will no doubt impress with its simple exterior elegance. But it’s what’s inside the 207,000 square-foot hospital that counts.

Research space will more than double, to nearly 30,000 square feet. Meanwhile the Inpatient Unit will be housed on the 4th floor, providing 22 single patient rooms and a four bed step-down unit, designed to meet all the highest standards for infection control. There are also several areas dedicated to families throughout the hospital, including the 3rd floor, which will house the four operating rooms.

There’s also a matter of location. The new Shriners Hospital will be located next to the Montreal Children’s Hospital, and in close proximity to the medical research facilities of world-renowned McGill University.

The new hospital was designed with a deep understanding that it will be a home away from home for the children and families it will serve. Many of them will have travelled from across Canada or the northeastern US for treatment. Along with its creature comforts the building’s interior design will be bright and airy, with a generous number of large windows and several skylights inviting natural light deep into the heart of the structure.

Altogether, the new hospital has been designed to create a unique healing and caring environment, staffed by dedicated professionals committed to improving the lives of children.
